Android Rafael RAT Malware: Check Point Research (CPR) has recently presented a report, which provides information about Android malware. This report states that an Android malware named Rafael RAT is targeting millions of users around the world. According to the report, everything from espionage to ransomware attacks has been carried out with the help of Remote Administration Tool (RAT).
The CPR report states that its maximum impact has been seen in America, China and Indonesia. There has been an uproar since this report came out. On investigating the RAT, CPR has found about 120 command and control servers connected to it.
Which devices are at risk?
According to the CPR report, Rafael malware is affecting Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo and Huawei devices. All these mobile companies have a large market share worldwide. The most worrying thing is that this malware has affected more than 87 percent of Android devices.
Researchers have presented three such scenarios which show that Rafael malware is behind all this.
- Encrypting victims’ files by Rafael.
- Leaked Two factor Authentication (2FA) messages enable 2FA bypass
- Compromise with Pakistan’s government website hosting Rafale’s command and control infrastructure.
How to protect your device from malware?

- Install only those apps from Google Play Store that you trust.
- Whenever you download any app, do it only from a source like Google Play Store.
- Always keep the operating system and apps in your phone updated.
