Android malware: Malware has been found in Google Play apps. The number of these apps is close to 60 and the apps have got around 100 million downloads. A new Android malware named ‘Goldoson’ has been found in Google Play, which has been found in 60 apps with a total of 100 million downloads. This number is really surprising. McAfee’s research team has discovered this malware. This malware is capable of collecting sensitive data of people, which includes users’ installed apps, WiFi and Bluetooth connected devices and GPS information.
Unknowingly the developers did this work
As BleepingComputer reports, the malware component has been linked to a third-party library that developers have inadvertently included in all 60 apps. Now these apps are available on Play Store and millions of people have downloaded them. According to the report, this malware can cheat users by clicking on ads in the background without their permission.
This is how goldson works
When a user runs an app containing the Goldoson malware, the library registers the device and retrieves its configuration from a rogue remote server. The setup tells how and how often Goldoson should perform the data-stealing and ad-clicking functions on the infected device.
Furthermore, the report states that the data collection mechanism is usually set to activate every two days. Android has been made much more secure after Android 11, but according to the report, Goldson had the right to access 10 percent of the app’s sensitive data despite the new version of the OS. The surprising thing is that the users do not know anything about this.
