Antique Watch: 60 years old watch, then bought for 7000, today sold more expensive than Mercedes

Do not throw away old things because it cannot be predicted when they will make you rich. A similar case has come to the fore in Britain. After the father’s death, the son sold the watch he had bought 60 years ago in an auction, and with the amount of money he got, not only a watch but even a Mercedes car could be bought. It was sold in an auction conducted by TW Gaze.

According to media reports, this watch was bought by Simon Burnett, a search-rescue diver of Britain’s Royal Navy. It was later inherited by his son Peter Barnett after his death in 2019. It was an antique 1963 Rolex Submariner watch. On buying it 60 years ago, he had spent 70 pounds i.e. about 7000 rupees in today’s terms. In the auction, Simon’s son Peter Burnett had priced it at 50,000 to 60,000 pounds. Which would be around 55 to 66 lakh rupees. But it was auctioned for 40,000 pounds i.e. approximately 41 lakh rupees.

Purchased while on deployment in Singapore
According to a Metro report, Peter Burnett said, it was a very difficult decision for me. But later I felt that I did the right thing. My father had bought this watch when he was posted in Singapore. Father used to tell that even at that time it was very valuable for the family. Peter has retired from the police service. He said, whenever he used to wear this watch on his hands, he used to feel very close to his father. But I was afraid to wear it everyday. Because I could not walk wearing a watch worth 60 thousand pounds in my wrist.

buyer not disclosed
According to the report, it was auctioned online and the person who bought it refused to reveal his identity. However, that person is a resident of Britain. Peter is very happy with the amount received by selling the watch. On the other hand, another report says that the Rolex Submariner Watch was not just a fashion accessory, as Simon used it in important rescue missions under the sea. Then they had to know how long they stayed under water. However, now it has become a status symbol and rich people use it.
