Tech company Apple has agreed to settle a lawsuit going against it. For this the company is ready to pay 95 million US dollars (about Rs 815 crore). This can bring Rs 1,700-1,700 into the accounts of thousands of users. Apple was accused that its voice assistant Siri had illegally listened to the conversations of users and given them to third-parties to show advertisements. However, Apple denied these allegations.
The lawsuit against Apple was filed in 2021
This lawsuit was filed against Apple in September, 2021. Although it was initiated in February 2021, the case was dismissed due to lack of sufficient evidence. After this a new case was filed. In this, many people had complained that Apple was recording their conversations, even if they had accidentally activated the virtual assistant Siri. A user alleged that he was talking to a doctor about surgery and was shown several advertisements related to the same topic.
Apple has been denying the allegations
Since the lawsuit was filed in 2021, Apple has been continuously denying the allegations against it, but it has not provided any data or information to prove itself innocent.
Apple will settle the case for Rs 815 crore
After more than 3 years, Apple has now agreed to settle the case. The company will now pay Rs 815 crore to the affected users. With this, every affected user (whose conversations have been recorded by Apple from September 17, 2014 to December 31, 2024) will get Rs 1,700. Apple is still denying these allegations and has agreed to the settlement only to close this chapter.
