Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has made a major change in the exam pattern from this time by increasing the date of application for the 68th examination from 20th December to 30th December. Now in the preliminary examination, one mark will be deducted for four wrong answers. Due to no provision of negative marking till now, the candidates used to give approximate answers. Negative marking will be applicable for all 150 questions. There will be MCQ of 100 marks in optional subject. There will be an essay test of 300 marks instead of an optional subject in the main examination. The changes made in the notification issued by BPSC Secretary Amarendra Kumar have been welcomed by the student organisations, which have been protesting against the BPSC continuously for the last two months. However, student organizations have made a major demand regarding the exam pattern that the option ‘E’ should be removed from the answers. Examiners say that there are two options in this – all the four answers are correct and none of the four is correct.
Five exams of 3-3 hours each
After the change in the pattern, now the exam will be in such a way that there will be five papers of three hours each. General Hindi and optional subject will be of 100 marks, in this also three hours will be given. It is for passing examinations, there are three subjects for merit determination. In these, there will be three hours for General Studies Paper 1 and 2, while 300-300 marks will be there. The duration of the essay exam will also be of three hours and the marks will be 300. The merit list for the main examination will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained in both general studies paper and essay.

General Hindi marks will not be counted in merit determination, however it will be necessary to bring 30 percent marks. The marks of the optional subject will also not be counted in the merit determination, but it is necessary to pass in this examination. Category-wise minimum compulsory marks will be different to pass in this. General category will be considered as pass in 40 percent, while backward class will be considered as pass at 36.5%, extremely backward class at 34%, SAC-ST, women or Divyang at 32% marks.
