But earlier he had refused to meet Michael Jackson. Actually, when AR Rahman expressed his desire to meet Michael, his team sent an email to the Indian singer after seven days.
Had asked to meet Michael Jackson’s manager
AR Rahman said, ‘In the beginning of 2009, I was in Los Angeles. There I met Michael Jackson’s manager. I asked him if I could meet Michael Jackson. In response, he said, yes, why not, we will send an email. There was no response from him in the first week. I was just calm, I thought it was okay.’
Refused to meet Michael, said- I will meet him after winning the Oscar
AR Rahman further said, ‘After that the nominations came. I was nominated for the Oscar. After this I got an email. It was written in it that Michael Jackson wants to meet you. Then I said, now I don’t want to meet him. I will meet him only if I win the Oscar, otherwise I will not. I was sure that I am going to win the Oscar.’
Then Michael Jackson called AR Rahman to his home
After winning the Oscar, Michael Jackson invited AR Rehna to his house to meet him. He never forgets that day. AR Rehna further said, ‘I went to meet him the next day after winning the Oscar. We met at his house in Los Angeles. My driver dropped me to his house. It was around 6:30 in the evening, the sun was setting and then someone wearing gloves opened the door. I was very happy because I had won 2 Oscars. I was on cloud nine. The meeting with him was good.’ Michael also introduced Rahman to his children. AR Rehna said that he also showed me some dance moves. This is a memory I will never forget.

On the request of Shankar, director of the film Ethiran (Robot), AR Rahman asked him to sing in this film. Michael Jackson accepted this offer.
