According to ASER (Annual Status of Education Report) 2024, there has been a lot of change in the education level of mothers in the last eight years. In 2016, 46.6% of mothers who never joined schools have come down to 29.4% in 2024. Government officials believe that this change is the result of the successful efforts of ‘Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan’, which was launched in 2001-02.

The level of studies after 10th increased in women

But this change has not only been seen in the number of school going mothers, but also in their level of education. In 2016, only 9.2% of mothers studied after 10th, which has now increased to 19.5% in 2024.

Kerala is at the forefront of the states, where the biggest increase of this change has been seen. In 2016, 40% of mothers were studying after 10th, and now in 2024 this number has increased to 69.6%. Second place is Himachal Pradesh, where this figure has increased from 30.7% to 52.4%. Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal have also seen more than 10% increase.

The level of education dropped in women in Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh is at the forefront in this case, where only 9.7% mothers are studying after 10th, while in 2016 the figure was only 3.6%.

The level of education of father of school going children also dropped

The increase in studies of fathers after 10th has been slightly less. In 2016, 17.4% of the fathers studied after 10th, which has increased to 25% in 2024. During this time, the level of education between mother and father has also decreased. In 2016, 8% more mothers were studying after 10th than father, now this difference has come down to 5%.

Survey of more than 06 lakh children

ASER is a rural survey, which is done by NGO ‘first’, in which 6,49,491 children’s basic reading levels were evaluated. In this report, information about the education of mother and father is also collected.

Mothers’ education affects children

According to official sources, today’s young mothers started going to school when the level and enrollment of education under ‘Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan’ was increasing. This also has a positive effect on children’s education. It is clear from these figures that when the mother is more educated, its effects are also good on children’s education. Research has proved that the education of mothers can bring significant improvement in children’s education and their results.
