Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma gave clarification on Barpeta Satra Issue | ‘First namaz, then mosque was built’, Assam CM Himanta Sarma asked

Assam: The issue of ban on sale of land in some places of Assam is gaining momentum. Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted a related post on social media platform X.

Sarma wrote, ‘Why is our culture in danger in Assam? Barpeta Satra, which is one of the most important religious places in the state, first started offering namaz and then a mosque was built there, so we have banned the sale of land near some important places.’

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote in another post on OneX, ‘The Assam government is working on a mission mode to streamline land records, fight encroachment and protect the land rights of the indigenous communities of Assam. Today, to enhance these efforts, I have launched several citizen-friendly services that will bring transparency in land ownership, set a time limit for Assam Right to Public Service (ARTPS) and create a portal to motivate citizens in times of natural disasters.’

‘Not good for the balance of society’

Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, ‘If a mosque is suddenly built near an ancient temple or worship starts near the historic Idgah, then it is not good for the balance of the society. The authorities should consider these sensitive issues. This is why the government has banned the purchase of land near important places.’
