The hiker told that he was released after several hours of interrogation. The woman has appealed to people not to bring any kind of satellite communicator to India. This is not the first case of someone being arrested for possessing a satellite device. Last month, a Czech Republic citizen was arrested in Goa. He had a GPS device with a satellite transmitter attached to it. Let us tell you that according to Indian law, it is prohibited to possess any satellite transmitter or phone without a license. If anyone is found to have such a device without a license, he can be arrested.
Considered a threat to national security
Under the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1933, common people of India cannot own or use satellite phones. This may pose a threat to national security. Therefore there is a ban on its possession.
