To illuminate the cities of Ayodhya, Gorakhpur and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh with solar energy, a state level committee meeting was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Narendra Bhushan, Principal Secretary, Energy and Additional Energy Sources Department. During this, along with giving approval for smart solar street lights in Municipal Corporation Ayodhya, smart solar street lights, solar high mast and solar street lights in Municipal Corporation Gorakhpur and smart solar street lights, solar high mast, solar street lights, solar tree and water kiosk in Municipal Corporation Varanasi, in-principle consent was given to other proposals.

Under the Solar City program, the target is to generate 10 percent of the total electricity consumption of the cities of Ayodhya, Gorakhpur and Varanasi from solar energy. Out of the 40 MW solar power plant being set up on the banks of the Saryu River in Ayodhya Solar City, 14 MW has already been installed. Work on the remaining 26 MW is in progress. Similarly, under the ‘PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme’, a target of 50000 has been given to Ayodhya, 75000 to Gorakhpur and 75000 to Varanasi for domestic consumers. For this, the Municipal Corporation and the Chief Development Officer have been directed to prepare an action plan.

It is worth noting that a target has been set to install solar rooftop plants on 25 lakh houses in the state. There is a subsidy of Rs. 30 thousand from the center and Rs. 15 thousand from the state on a one kilowatt solar plant. Rs. 60 thousand from the center and Rs. 30 thousand from the state on two kilowatts, Rs. 78 thousand from the center and Rs. 30 thousand from the state on three kilowatts and Rs. 78 thousand from the center and Rs. 30 thousand from the state on installing plants of more than three kilowatts.
