Bangladesh MP Murder Case: The West Bengal CID has arrested a butcher for his involvement in the murder of Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim Anar. The man was arrested from Bongaon area of North 24 Parganas district of the state. This information was given by an official on Friday (24 May).
According to news agency PTI, the official claimed that the man, a butcher by profession, has admitted during interrogation that he had helped other accused in dismembering the body and after that the body parts were disposed of at different places. After going missing from Kolkata on May 13, the Bengal Police on Wednesday confirmed the murder of Awami League MP Anar from Bangladesh’s Jhenaidah-4 area.
Butcher entered Bengal illegally
The officer said that the West Bengal CID team took the arrested man to Bhangar area on Friday, where the chopped body parts were dumped in different places in plastic bags. “The accused is a Bangladeshi national and a butcher by profession. He had entered India illegally and was living in Mumbai hiding his real identity,” the police officer said.
He said, “The butcher was called to Kolkata a few months ago as part of the conspiracy to kill Anar. The accused has admitted that he had helped the four people who killed the politician inside the flat. He had helped them in skinning the body and cutting the body into pieces.” Along with this, the police suspect that the MP was trapped in a honey trap. A woman took him to the flat after which he was murdered.
CID is still searching for body parts
The officer said the arrested person was produced before a court in Barasat today, from where he was sent to CID custody for 12 days. He said a team of CID officials is searching for the body parts of the deceased in Krishnamati village of Bhangar.
The betel nut was taken for five crore rupees
The senior police officer said that the preliminary investigation also revealed that the MP’s close friend and American citizen Akhtaruzzaman had paid around Rs 5 crore to those involved in the crime. He said, “We will question him (Kasai) to get a clear idea about the crime, how he came in contact with Anar’s friend living in America and who were his accomplices.”
He said that a team of West Bengal CID went to Bangladesh on Thursday to interrogate the three accused arrested by Bangladesh Police in connection with this case. The officer said that the MP’s friend has a flat in Kolkata and he is probably in America at present.
First he was strangled to death, then his body was cut into pieces
Police claimed that circumstantial evidence indicated that the MP was first strangled to death and then the body was dismembered. The missing MP had reportedly arrived in Kolkata on May 12 for treatment. His search began six days later when Gopal Biswas, a resident of Baranagar in North Kolkata and an acquaintance of the Bangladeshi politician, lodged a complaint with the local police on May 18.
Anar stayed at Biswas’s house after coming here. In his complaint, Biswas said that Anar left his Baranagar residence on the afternoon of May 13 to meet a doctor. He had said that he would return home for dinner. Biswas claimed that the Bangladesh MP had not been contacted since May 17. Due to this, he had to lodge a missing person complaint a day later.
