The 14-party coalition of Bangladesh’s ruling Awami League has decided to ban the fundamentalist organization Jamaat-e-Islami. In this decision, it has also been said that along with Jamaat, its student wing Chhatra Shibir will also be banned.
Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir are accused of hijacking student protests in Bangladesh and spreading violence that left more than 200 people dead. Media reports described how Jamaat-e-Islami, backed by Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI, hijacked the student protests, leading to arson and violence.
Last night on 29th July, a meeting was held at the residence of the Bangladeshi Prime Minister. This meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Leaders of all the 14 parties of the alliance were present in this meeting.
After this meeting, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader informed that the alliance has agreed to ban Jamaat-Shibir. Everyone said that Jamaat-e-Islami has destroyed state property by killing common people and carrying out terrorist attacks by instigating various issues.
According to media reports, Obaidul Quader said that BNP and Jamaat are conspiring to spread terrorism in the country and the 14 parties of the alliance have unanimously decided to ban Jamaat-Shibir to eliminate the evil forces.
Let us tell you that earlier Jamaat was banned from contesting elections in Bangladesh. Jamaat-e-Islami opposed the independence movement of Bangladesh. In 1971, Jamaat-e-Islami supported the Pakistan Army. After the decision of the High Court in October 2018, the Election Commission cancelled the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami from the Bangladesh elections.
