bangladesh PM sheikh hasina called miscreants protest students terrorists

Bangladesh Violence: In Bangladesh, lakhs of students are protesting in Dhaka against reservation, due to which the government there has again announced to impose curfew. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina appeared strict regarding the outbreak of violence in many parts of the country. She said on Sunday (August 4, 2024) that the people who are vandalizing in the name of protest are not students but terrorists and such elements need to be dealt with strictly.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “I appeal to the countrymen to suppress these terrorists strictly.” According to the report of Dhaka Tribune newspaper, Sheikh Hasina called a meeting of the National Committee on Security Affairs in Ganabhaban, in which she said these things. The meeting was attended by the heads of Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and other top security officials. The Prime Minister’s Security Advisor and Home Minister were also present in the meeting.

Why are students on the streets of Bangladesh?

In fact, currently protesters in Bangladesh are demanding the abolition of the controversial quota system, under which 30 percent reservation in government jobs was given to the relatives of the fighters of Bangladesh’s liberation war in 1971. Now some former army officers have also joined this movement of students.

According to local media, four Awami League supporters were killed and more than 100 people were injured in Rangpur, while two people each were killed in Bogra and Magura, including a student party leader.
