Taslima Nasreen: Bangladeshi exiled writer Taslima Nasreen is very worried about her resident permit these days. She said that she has been living in India since 2011. Her resident permit expired on 27 July but the Indian government has not renewed it yet. She likes living in India, but her resident permit has not been renewed for about one and a half months.
The writer, originally from Bangladesh, told a TV channel, “I don’t know whom to talk to. Who will contact me in the Home Ministry regarding this issue. I don’t talk to anyone. I keep checking the status online, but have not received any confirmation yet. The website is only showing updating. This never happened before, the resident permit used to get renewed before it was cancelled.” Taslima has lived in Europe for a long time after her deportation from Bangladesh. After this, she decided to live in India. Initially, she used to get permits for a short period of time, but since 2011 Taslima has been living continuously in Delhi.
Taslima’s connection with the situation in Bangladesh?
When Taslima Nasreen was asked whether the current situation in Bangladesh is becoming an obstacle in permit extension? In response to this, she said, “I have nothing to do with the politics of Bangladesh. I have been living in India even before this controversy. I live here as a Swedish citizen, besides, my residence permit was canceled even before the situation in Bangladesh. There was a problem in the year 2017 as well, but at that time there was a technical problem.”
Taslima has also lived in Kolkata
According to the Bangladeshi writer, “People think that I am connected with the government and the leaders, but it is not so. If I do not get a permit to stay in India, I will die, now I am in no condition to go anywhere.” In fact, Taslima has been in exile since 1994, after living in Europe for many years, she came to India in 2004-2005. Initially, she decided to live in Kolkata. She had also settled down here, but after heavy opposition, she moved to Jaipur in 2007 and has been living in Delhi since 2011.
