Bengaluru Traffic Police Discount On Traffic Fine: The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) wants to extend the 50 per cent discount given to people who have been challaned for breaking traffic rules. Actually this exemption was till February 11, but seeing its good response, the traffic police wants to extend it further. Traffic Commissioner MA Saleem said that after the launch of the scheme, about 42 lakh cases were settled.
Discount started in the first week of February
The Bengaluru Traffic Police has collected a huge amount of Rs 120 crore as fine till 6 pm on Saturday (11 February), the last day of exemption. In fact BTP has settled more than 41 lakh cases in Bengaluru since the launch of the scheme from 3 February.
According to Traffic Commissioner MA Saleem, after good response on a large scale, Bengaluru Police wants to give 50 percent discount on traffic fines even further. After the overwhelming response from the public, BTP has approached the Karnataka Transport Department to take the scheme forward.
Traffic Commissioner MA Saleem said, “About 42 lakh challan cases have been settled due to this scheme. Therefore, we have written to the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) to consider an extension for a period they may deem fit. ,
Karnataka Transport Department Order
The Karnataka Transport Department issued an order on 2 February stating that traffic fines would be reduced by 50 per cent by 11 February. In fact, the KSLSA had issued an order to the Transport Department to take appropriate action to pay the e-challan of the outstanding amount of about 1.13 crores. The police have so far been able to dispose of only about 42 lakh cases, which is less than half of the violations.
