Maharashtra News: Today is the 205th anniversary of ‘Bhima Koregaon Battle’. On January 1, 1818, a war was fought between the East India Company and the Maratha Peshwa faction. Every year on the anniversary of the battle, a crowd of people gather at the Jai Stabha in Koregaon Bhima, Pune to pay homage.

Let us tell you that on January 1, 2018, violence broke out during the celebrations on the occasion of the anniversary of Bhima Koregaon battle. Some people pelted stones at the cars going towards the village. One person was killed and several others were injured in the violence. In the case, the police had registered a case against 162 people. Then 200 years of the war were completed. Milind Ekbote, a Hinduist activist, and Sambhaji Bhide were accused of inciting the violence on behalf of Dalit leaders.

Accused poet P Varavara Rao was placed under house arrest 

The Supreme Court had heard the 2018 violence case on 10 August 2022. The court ordered poet P Varavara Rao, accused of violence, to be kept under house arrest for a month in view of his health condition and old age. On 17 November 2022, the lawyer told the court that the order was not being followed by the state authorities.
