One person died and two were seriously injured after being hit by an uncontrolled car near Shahpur bridge on Varanasi Ghazipur Highway on Wednesday evening at 7.30 pm. The condition of both the injured is said to be serious. Three people were riding a bike on the Varanasi-Gorakhpur highway from Chaubepur side. A four-wheeler hit the bike near Shahpur bridge. The car trapped the bike driver and dragged him for 500 meters. He died on the spot.

Two others riding the bike were injured. With the help of police, he was sent to the hospital by ambulance for treatment. After the accident, the villagers blocked the highway and started shouting slogans and pelting stones at the police. Many police personnel were also injured due to stone pelting and were sent to the hospital. Additional in-charge inspector Jagdish Kushwaha reached the spot with his force and started trying to pacify the people. Heavy police force has been deployed on the spot. If we look at the incident, the deceased, Nathu Rajbhar (45), a resident of Chaubepur village, Kodopur, along with his friend Akash Rajbhar of Shahpur village and an unknown resident of Bankat village, all three, were going from Chaubepur to their home by bike after working as laborers.

Then an uncontrolled car hit him. The car driver ran away leaving his car. The villagers completely damaged the XUV car by beating it with sticks. The family members of the deceased, including wife Urmila Devi and son Akash, who reached the spot, were in a bad state, crying. DSP Sarnath Dr. Atul Anjan Tripathi reached the incident site along with police from several police stations and after a lot of effort, cleared the jam at 9 pm. The body was taken into custody and sent for post mortem report.
