Bihar State Disaster Management Authority has tied up with Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai to reduce disaster risk in the state. TISS is a premier educational institute in the field of disaster studies. on Thursday between Bihar State Disaster Management Authority (BSDMA) and TISS, Mumbai, to promote disaster risk reduction and management in the areas of disaster management in view of the risk of floods, lightning, drought, fire and other disasters in Bihar. An important MoU was signed for capacity building.
The formal exchange of this MoU between Authority Secretary Meenendra Kumar and TISS Professor Jacqueline Joseph took place in the authority’s conference hall. On this occasion, Honorable Vice President Dr. Uday Kant, Honorable Member Shri P.N. Rai, Mr. Kaushal Kishore Mishra, Mr. Narendra Singh, Mr. Prakash Kumar and senior officials of the authority and representatives of TISS were present. Under the MoU, TISS and BSDMA will share knowledge in the field of disaster management. It aims to strengthen disaster management capabilities in the state and reduce the risk of floods, lightning, drought, fire and other natural disasters. The following major works will be done under this cooperation…
1. Evaluation of the effectiveness of the Chief Minister’s School Safety Program and Road Safety Programmes.
2. Research on social vulnerability and mental and psychosocial impacts of disasters.
3. To prepare a comprehensive vulnerability map by assessing the vulnerabilities in various risk areas of the state.
4. To develop disaster management training and capacity building programs for various departments.
5. Organization of a structured internship program in which interns will participate in the projects of BSDMA.
6. To strengthen teaching and research of disaster management in the universities of Bihar.
Will create research topic bank
TISS and BSDMA will jointly create a research topic bank, in which work will be done on related research topics. TISS will develop a learning program that will provide guidance to participants in the design and implementation of research. Under this agreement, a coordination and monitoring system will also be established, under which a core team of TISS will work in Patna. This partnership is an important step towards introducing latest research and solutions in the field of disaster management in the state. This joint effort of BSDMA and TISS will prove helpful in further strengthening the safety and disaster management of the citizens of the state.
