Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was shocked by the result of the bypolls on Thursday. His party JDU lost to BJP in Kudhani by-election. However, Nitish Kumar is relieved by the victory of the Congress in the Himachal Pradesh assembly elections and the victory of the Samajwadi Party in the Mainpuri Lok Sabha by-election in Uttar Pradesh.
Nitish Kumar, 71, is hopeful of a united opposition front to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He did a few tweets praising the electoral performance of Congress and SP. Hearty congratulations and best wishes to the Indian National Congress on securing a majority in the Himachal Pradesh assembly elections, he tweeted. Significantly, JDU leader Nitish is now a part of the Grand Alliance and Congress is the old party included in the Grand Alliance.
In another tweet, he also congratulated the victorious SP candidate from Mainpuri, Dimple Yadav, as well as her husband, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. He said, hearty congratulations to Samajwadi Party candidate Dimple Yadav on her landslide victory in the by-election of Mainpuri parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Congratulations and best wishes to Samajwadi Party President and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav. The by-election to the Mainpuri Lok Sabha was necessitated by the death of SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav. Nitish and Mulayam Singh were in the Lok Dal in the 1980s.
The Congress wrested the hill state of Himachal Pradesh from the BJP, while the SP retained its stronghold in UP. The by-election was also held for Bihar’s Kudhani assembly seat, but JDU lost to BJP here.
BJP got victory in Kudhani by-election
In 2020, RJD won the Kudhani seat on behalf of the Grand Alliance. Then the voters of JDU were with the Bharatiya Janata Party, yet the BJP candidate was defeated. This time the same BJP candidate defeated JDU. That JDU candidate has been defeated, who is now in power with RJD. Not only this, RJD’s number 2 leader Tejashwi Yadav came here and appealed to RJD supporters to vote in support of JDU candidate.
Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United also put full force in the by-election of Kudhani seat. Tejashwi Yadav, the younger son of RJD National President Lalu Prasad Yadav, has kept the program of going to Singapore with his father after the completion of this election campaign. Despite the meetings of Nitish-Tejashwi, the result is clearly showing that JDU got almost no vote of RJD. This defeat is a matter of concern for JDU, because it had left no stone unturned from its side.
