Bihar Education Minister Chandrashekhar Singh: Bihar Education Minister Chandrashekhar on Wednesday (January 11) courted controversy by saying Tulsidas’s Ramcharitmanas “spreads hatred in the society”. Addressing the students at the 15th convocation of Nalanda Open University, the minister further said that Ramcharitmanas and Manusmriti are books that divide the society.

He said, “Why was Ramcharitmanas opposed and which part was opposed? Lower caste people were not allowed to get education and it is said in Ramcharitmanas that low caste people get poisoned anyway They are like snakes after drinking milk. Manusmriti, Ramcharitmanas, Guru Golwalkar’s Bunch of Thoughts… these books are books that spread hatred.”
