Bihar Farmer Arun Bhagat Is Growing Tomato-capsicum Even In Off-season Through Mulching In Polyhouse

Capsicum Cultivation: Paddy, wheat, maize, sugarcane are counted among the major cash crops. These crops give good profits, but the cost of cultivation is also high. Here, in the last few years, due to climate change, the loss in these crops has also increased a lot, so the concept of protected cultivation was introduced among the farmers, under which safe production of crops is available in a structure made of plastic sheets. Good yield of horticulture crops can be taken in this cover. Farmers are being connected with this technology in different areas of the country. Under the National Horticulture Mission scheme, technical training and financial help are given for farming in polyhouse, greenhouse.

At the same time, the state governments also cooperate to promote protected farming at their own level. Arun Bhagat, a farmer from Katihar, Bihar, who has turned to horticulture crops after seeing losses in traditional farming, is also making good profits by growing off-season vegetables with new techniques.

more profit than traditional farming
Farmer Arun Kumar says that he was not getting much profit from the traditional cultivation of corn-paddy, so he made up his mind to grow off-season vegetables by planting shade nets. For more information about this, the District Horticulture Department was also contacted, where there was a lot of cooperation from the agriculture officials. After submitting all the documents in the department, Arun Bhagat also got a grant of Rs 1,03,600. In this way, the process of cultivation of tomato and capsicum started in the off-season.

Vegetables are bought from the farm
Arun Kumar says that initially the scope and yield of the polyhouse was less, but gradually the hard work paid off and the cultivation under the polyhouse also expanded. Now off-season vegetables of its polyhouse are being sold from Katihar to many other districts. Arun Bhagat himself does not go to the market to sell vegetables, rather market traders come to his farm and buy vegetables themselves.

great output in a short amount of time
Today, many farmers like Arun Bhagat are getting abundant production of vegetables in less time and less expenditure by applying plastic mulch in polyhouses. Water is saved by this technique, the crop remains safe even from the uncertainty of the weather and the outbreak of pest-diseases, that is, there is no possibility of loss. This is the reason that by doing protected cultivation, farmers can earn good production and good profits in less time, less effort and less cost.
