Major action against former IAS officer SM Raju, accused of embezzlement of crores of rupees, sent to jail

Former Gaya District Magistrate and 1991 batch IAS officer SM Raju has been sent to Patna’s Beur Jail in judicial custody by Patna’s Vigilance Court on Friday. A regular petition was filed by SM Raju in the court of Special Judge Manish Dwivedi, which was dismissed by the court. He was accused of embezzlement and corruption of government funds while holding the post of Chief Executive Officer of Mahadalit Development Mission. After this, a case was registered in the monitoring station under case number 81/2017. A case was registered against them under sections 406, 409, 420, 467, 468, 471,477A and 120B. In this regard, it was told by the Monitoring Bureau that the allegations leveled against the IAS officer were investigated, in which the allegations leveled against him were found to be true and a charge sheet was filed against him in the Monitoring Court on 25 April 2019. According to the charge sheet filed in the monitoring court, there was a scholarship scam in the SC-ST welfare department of Bihar. There was an allegation of fraudulently paying technical institutes on behalf of SC-ST students studying in technical institutes.
Allegations of embezzlement in Mahadalit Development Mission
SM Raju, a 1991 batch IAS officer, was accused of irregularities in the payment of scholarships to students studying in various technical institutions in the 2013-14 financial year. The government had got the investigation done by the Vigilance Department. The Vigilance Bureau had registered a case against them on November 29, 2016. This matter was very popular at that time. After this scam came to the fore, the Nitish government faced a lot of embarrassment. By the way, when he was the District Magistrate in Gaya, there was a scam of crores of rupees while he was the Chief Executive Officer of the Municipal Corporation. The then Deputy Administrator Arvind Chowdhary had registered a case against SM Raju in the Civil Line Police Station.
