“Since marriage, he was harassing her in the name of demanding money, but when the Home Guard uniform came on his body, his arbitrariness increased. The demand for dowry increased manifold. He started demanding Rs 5 lakh each. Beat up. Tried to kill myself. I was forced to run away from the police, so I am not getting help. Saying this, Sonam starts crying. She had come to Bhagalpur Superintendent of Police with a complaint. She told that due to not getting dowry, her husband has married another girl named Priyanka.

In Bihar, as soon as she got a police job after marriage, a husband tried to kill his wife to get rid of her. The matter is coming to light from Bakharpur assistant police station of the district, where home guard jawan Ranjit Kumar has been accused by his wife Sonam Kumari of murdering her. Sonam says that she was married to Ranjit Kumar, resident of Bakharpur, on 11 May 2022. Within a few days of marriage, there used to be a dispute between husband and wife on the issue of dowry. Sonam said – “Husband Ranjit Kumar took Rs 1.5 lakh in dowry, but he kept demanding the money. If he did not give it, he started threatening to throw her out of the house and kill him. He gave the money to Ranjit from his father. Despite this, the demand for money did not stop. As soon as he got the job, Ranjit asked his father to bring it. He said that he did not have that much money. Ranjit tried to burn me by sprinkling kerosene on me. I escaped from there in time and reached my maternal home.”
Complaint to SSP, case will also go to DG Home Guard
The victim had filed a complaint against her husband in the local police station, but she also said that the police did not do anything after looking into the case of the home guard jawan. Sonam said that she left her husband’s house and is living in her maternal house after a few months of marriage. Ranjeet has married a girl named Priyanka for the second time. Sonam has now appealed to the Senior Superintendent of Police to hear the matter. The police will also send this case to the Home Guard because it is a case of a serving employee demanding dowry, murderously attacking his wife and marrying another while living with one wife. If the matter reaches the Home Defense Corps Headquarters in Patna, it will be worth seeing what stand the famous DG Shobha Ohtkar will take in this matter of dowry harassment.
