The CBI team raided the zonal office of East Central Railway Hajipur late on Tuesday evening and arrested the railway officer. The arrested officer is said to be Sunil Kumar Gandhi, Chief Material Manager of the Stores Department. According to the information, a CBI team has also raided Sunil Kumar Gandhi’s residence in Patna from where Rs 2 lakh in cash has been recovered. Sunil Kumar Gandhi was taking bribe in the name of managing tenders, complaint about which was received by CBI. However, no official statement has come from CBI yet. According to the information, the CBI team has taken manager Sunil Kumar Gandhi with itself after investigation. The team has already raided and investigated the stores department of the zonal office. The same manager’s vehicle has also been seized by CBI.

CBI raids have already taken place in the East Central Railway area.

Even before this, major action has been taken by CBI against corrupt railway officials in Samastipur of East Central Railway zone. On Saturday, December 9, 2023, the CBI team reached the Railway Mechanical Factory in Samastipur and arrested Senior Section Engineer Mantu Kumar red handed while taking a bribe of Rs 20,000.

CBI action was taken in the month of August also

In the month of August 2023, a major action was taken by CBI in East Central Railway, in which five people including three railway officers were arrested. Along with the railway officers, two people associated with a private company in Kolkata were also arrested. This action of CBI was said to be related to the bribery case in lieu of giving railway rake. CBI had raided a total of 16 locations in Patna, Sonpur, Hajipur, Samastipur and Kolkata, during which many documents along with Rs 46.50 lakh were recovered.
