The country is being built on Kosi river to connect Supaul and Madhubani districts. A large part of the longest bridge collapsed, One laborer died after being crushed into it, while more than nine laborers were injured. The length of this bridge is 10.2 kilometers which is being built on Kosi river between Bheja-Bakaur. This bridge has a total of 170 spans. The length of each span is approximately 60 meters (pillar number 1 from Bheja side and pillar number 171 from Bakour side). This section of the bridge is being constructed by M/s Gammon Engineers and Contractors Private Limited and M/s Transrail Lightning Limited (Joint Venture).
Reason given for the incident
Regarding the incident that took place on Friday, it is being told that it appears that the under construction span 153-154 fell due to the pin breaking while lifting the segment kept on the trailer. It is also to be said that a detailed report in this regard can be obtained only after site inspection by bridge experts.
Family members received financial compensation
The personnel present at the spot say that 11 laborers have been injured in this accident. The injured laborers were immediately admitted to the hospital, out of which 10 laborers are out of danger. A laborer died while being taken to the hospital. Officials say that financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh has been given to the family of the deceased laborer and Rs 1 lakh each to the family of the injured laborers.
Investigation team reached the spot
Three eminent bridge experts reached the spot to investigate the incident. Those experts included A.K. Srivastava, Mahesh Tandon and G. l. Verma is included. These people will work to find out the causes of the accident and assess the bridge. The investigation team says that the collapse of the bridge is being investigated.
