Police of Sonki police station of Darbhanga district have arrested 8 thieves hailing from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. These include five men and three women. Police have recovered 9.5 kg of fake gold, 200 grams of fake silver jewelery and Rs 1 lakh 15 thousand in cash from them. The arrested accused have been identified as Shankar Rathod, resident of Avadhutnagar of Manowada police station of Nagpur, Maharashtra, Hiralal, resident of Maliana under Tipinagar police station of Meerut district of UP, Prem Kumar, resident of Bodla of Jagdishpur police station area of Agra district, Devaki Solanki, wife of Jaggu Solanki of the same village. Rahul, resident of Gandhinagar, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, Laxman and his wife Attari Devi, resident of Sultanpur, Delhi and Rohini sector. The wife of Shankar Lal, resident of 20, has been identified as Meena Devi. The police is busy interrogating all of them.

It is said that this is a big team of thieves gang who roam around the villages and sell temples made of glass and goods made in different designs. During this period, seeing women alone in their homes, they would assure them of cleaning their gold jewelery and would occasionally replace the real gold jewelery with fake gold jewellery. In the same sequence, on January 5, this gang of thieves, two men and a woman, came to the shop of a textile businessman Rajesh Das located in Sonki Bazaar on a bike with UP number. These people had taken Rs 3 lakh 15 thousand in cash in the name of selling gold. After this, when the businessman got the said gold tested, it turned out to be fake and the textile businessman was shocked. It was then that the victim businessman lodged an FIR in Sonki police station.
Sadar DSP Amit Kumar told that on January 8, during the vehicle check near Chikni Mor, the police of Sonki police station stopped two people riding a bike with UP number and found 1.5 kg of fake gold jewelery and 50 rupees from their bag. Thousand rupees cash was recovered. When these people were interrogated, they told their name as Shankar Rathod and their home as Shankar Rathod, resident of Avadhutnagar in Manowada police station of Nagpur district of Maharashtra, Hiralal, resident of Maliana under TP Nagar police station in Meerut district of UP. When Sonki police station incharge Basant Kumar Jha interrogated Karai, both of them admitted to cheating Rajesh Das, a textile businessman of Sonki market. On the trail of both of them, the police of Sonki police station with the help of Bahera police station raided a rented house in Pohaddi village from where about 8 kg of fake gold jewellery, 200 pieces of silver jewelery and Rs 1 lakh 15 thousand in cash were recovered. Six other thugs including three women involved in the gang were arrested from the spot. Information about other registered cases is being taken from the arrested thugs.
