In Bihar, five people of the same family consumed poison due to debt problems. Parents and son died in this incident. Of the remaining two, the condition of one is very serious. The matter is of Shahpur Balua village under Amarpur police station area of Banka district. The deceased have been identified as Kanhaiya Mahato (40), wife Geeta Devi (35) and son Dheeraj Kumar (12). Sabita Kumari (16) and Rakesh Kumar (8) are undergoing treatment in Bhagalpur, where Sabita’s condition is critical.
The debt had increased to Rs 20 lakh
Regarding the incident, the deceased’s daughter Savita Kumari told that my father had taken loan from Bandhan and S Bandhan Bank (Sahayata Group). Including the increasing interest and principal amount, it had become approximately Rs 20 lakh. My father was unable to repay the loan, but workers and villagers kept coming to our house to insult us.

The installment people started harassing her so continuously that it became difficult to walk in the village. Regarding this matter, father and mother said that my name has become bad everywhere. I can’t live anymore. Then father first made my two brothers, then me and then mother and then father ate the cake that was put in the cereal. My younger brother Rakesh Kumar spit out the cake after taking it in his mouth. Kanhaiya Mahato’s sister-in-law Bina Devi told that due to debt, my brother-in-law Gotni and children consumed poison at 2:00 in the night. My younger brother-in-law called me and said, let’s see that these people have consumed poison. Then all the people were hurriedly brought to Referral Hospital Amarpur. Seeing their serious condition, Dr. Jyoti Bharti gave first aid and referred all five people to Bhagalpur Mayaganj. Family members told that Kanhaiya Mahato died on the way to Bhagalpur. Then his wife Geeta Devi and son Dheeraj died during treatment. Sabita Kumari (16) and Rakesh Kumar (8) are undergoing treatment in Bhagalpur, where Sabita’s condition is critical.
