A shocking incident has come to light from Gaya district of Bihar. The Income Tax Department has sent a tax notice of Rs 2 crore 308 to a laborer. Now the victim is upset and has left his work and is making rounds of the Income Tax Department office for the last four days. After receiving the notice, the victim laborer said that he will work as a laborer all his life, still he cannot earn this much money.

Actually Rajiv Kumar Verma, a resident of Nai Godown Mohalla of Gaya city, is a daily wage laborer by profession. He works as a laborer in the oil warehouse located in Purani Godown of Kotwali police station area. Four days ago, Rajiv Kumar Verma suddenly received a tax notice of Rs 2 crore 308 from the Income Tax Department. Rajiv was shocked and worried after seeing the notice. In this regard, laborer Rajiv Kumar Verma told that on 22 January 2015, he had made a fixed deposit of Rs 2 lakh in the branch of Corporation Bank, Gaya. But he had withdrawn the amount before maturity on 16 August 2016. Then he is living his life the way it is going.
Department’s allegation- return has not been filed, victim said- what is return filing
Victim Rajiv Kumar said that a notice has been sent by the Income Tax Department. The notice mentions paying tax of Rs 2 crore 308. According to the notice, Rs 2 crore was deposited as fixed deposit in the session 2015-16. The return file for the said amount has not been submitted yet. He said that till date he does not even know what a return file is. Ten to twelve thousand rupees are earned as wages in a month, what is the need to file a return in that. Even if you work as a labourer your whole life, you will not be able to earn this much money. The victim labourer said that he has not gone to work for the last four days. Then we went to the Income Tax Department office, thinking that the problem will be solved. But the officials there said that nothing will happen by coming to the office. Go to Patna Income Tax Office, the problem will be solved from there. He said that he has been asked to deposit Rs 67 lakh as tax of Rs 2 crore 308 within two days.
