Organ donation is the biggest donation. Through this we can save the lives of others. We can bring light in their lives. We can give happiness to their families. These words were said by Dr. Manish Mandal, Medical Superintendent of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences. He said that the Government of India has declared August 3 as Indian Organ Donation Day, for which, being the President of Soto and a surgeon (doctor), it is my duty to inspire people to donate organs by providing them information about the importance of organ donation and its utility and for this Soto, Bihar is constantly making efforts. On this occasion, in the program organized in the lecture hall of the institute, all the department heads and doctors and officers and employees of nursing and paramedical services including the students studying in the institute were told about organ donation and other life benefits from it.
In fact, on the occasion of ‘Indian Organ Donation Day’, an awareness program related to organ donation was organized at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna under the aegis of State Organ Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTO), Bihar. Padmashree Dr. Vimal Jain, who was present as the chief guest, thanked everyone present at the program and said that awareness about organ donation in the country is now more than before. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also emphasized on organ donation to all Indians through radio. He said that when he started this campaign, very few people knew about it, but now this myth has ended among the people on a large scale and people are coming forward after becoming aware that by donating organs after death, someone else’s life can be saved and light can be brought into their life. He appealed to everyone to come forward for organ donation and also make people around them aware about it.
The number of eye donors is low
Vice President of Dadhichi Dehdaan Samiti, Dr. Subhash Prasad said that Bihar still has to depend on other states for cornea transplant. In our country, corneas are sent to other states from some states like South India and Gujarat, so that corneas are made available to needy patients and their transplantation brings light to their lives. He said that we have transplant centers but the number of people donating eyes is less. He said that for this, we all should take an oath to donate our organs so that the life of other people can also be happy and easy.
Now people need to be aware
Present in this program, Dean of the institute Dr. Rajesh Tiwari, Principal in charge Dr. Avnish Kumar, Medical Superintendent 2-Dr. Aman Kumar also stressed on the promotion of organ donation and said that now people need to be aware. Programs will keep happening but it is the responsibility of all of us to implement it so that we can make you and the people around us aware and inspire them by giving them information about organ donation. Media and NGOs will also have an important role in this, which will give information about it to the people of remote villages and tell them about its usefulness and inspire them to come forward.
A quiz was organized on the topic of organ donation
Director of the institute Dr. Binde Kumar praised the program and congratulated all the members of Soto, Bihar and said that at present kidney, liver, heart and cornea transplant facilities are available in the institute and in the coming days all the facilities related to all types of transplants will be made available to every patient so that they do not have to go outside for any kind of transplant. In this program, the families of eye and body donors including late Heera Devi, late Munshi Mahato, late Ramdev Gupta, late Indu Devi Jain, late Ramprasad Singh, late Chand Jain were honored by giving shawls. At the end of the program, a quiz was organized on the subject of organ donation, in which the employees of nursing and paramedical services participated enthusiastically and the winners were rewarded.
