On March 1, in a village in Darbhanga, a 25-year-old youth from the same village had raped a 17-year-old minor. After giving information, a Panchayat was held at the victim’s house in which the accused was acquitted after taking Rs. 1.25 lakh. But there was a twist in the story when the victim died on March 17. After the death of the girl, the family went to the crematorium to cremate the body, but by then the police got information about this incident and the police immediately reached the crematorium. The police immediately seized the body and sent it to DMCH for post-mortem.

After the rape, the Panchayat freed the accused by paying 1.25 lakh rupees.

Regarding the incident, the victim’s family members say that on March 1, the girl had gone out to graze her cattle. During this, accused Sunil Kumar forcefully took her to a deserted place and raped her. After returning home, he complained about this to his family. After the incident, the family members informed the parents of the accused and the villagers about the incident, after which in the Panchayat held with the village dignitaries including the Panchayat head and Sarpanch, it was decided to pay Rs. 1.25 lakh as fine to the accused Sunil Kumar. The accused also paid Rs 1.25 lakh.

The victim died 15 days after the incident

On March 16, 15 days after the incident, the girl’s health suddenly started deteriorating. After this the family got him admitted to Darbhanga for treatment. There the doctor treated her and then the victim returned home with her family. She remained well throughout the night but on the morning of March 17, her health deteriorated again and she died shortly thereafter.

After the death of the girl, the family started the process of cremating the body. The family members reached the cremation ground with the dead body but by then the police got information about the incident and the police reached the cremation ground. Police reached the cremation ground and took possession of the body and sent it to DMCH for post-mortem. After the body was seized, the victim’s father applied to the police station and registered a case and informed the police about the entire incident.

Police busy searching for people involved in Panchayat

Regarding the incident, Police Station Head Manish Kumar said that after receiving the post-mortem report, further action will be taken on the instructions of senior officials. DSP Ashutosh Kumar said that information about the incident has been received. Information about the Panchayat held in this matter is being collected. At what level, which people participated in the Panchayat and imposed fine on the accused. Other matters including imposing fine on the accused are being investigated.
