Rashtriya Janata Dal, the main component of the grand alliance which took command of Bihar in the Lok Sabha elections, held a press conference on Thursday in support of the words of its national president Lalu Prasad Yadav. Lalu had on Tuesday supported reservation for Muslims on the basis of religion, but then backed down within hours. Now RJD read the Mandal Commission report in support of what they said earlier. RJD Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha said that in the Mandal Commission report, non-Hindu backward castes need reservation and protection just like Hindus. The central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to ignore the recommendations of that report. It has shown its intention to end reservation indirectly by abolishing Articles 15 and 16 of the Constitution.
BJP people are threatening to change the constitution
The Rajya Sabha MP said that if the elections are held on issues then Modi ji will not be talked about. Modi ji is contrary to the issues. On the question of reservation, Manoj Jha said that people of BJP are threatening to change the Constitution of India. These people are Golwalkar’s people. He had problems with Dalits and backward people. He also had problems with reservation and Baba Saheb. In the Mandal Commission report, 3743 castes were considered backward castes. According to Articles 15 and 16, they were considered backward on social and educational grounds. Modi government wants to eliminate them.
Provision of reservation on social and educational basis
The Mandal Commission report also said that social and educational backwardness among non-Hindu communities is almost the same as among Hindu communities. Manoj Jha said that among the non-Hindu castes, such business communities come in the name of their traditional and hereditary professions and whose Hindu counterparts come in the list of Other Backward Classes of Hindus. Among them there are castes like Dhobi, Oilman, Dhimar, Barber, Gujar, Kumhar, Lohar, Carpenter, Tailor. This is the report of the Mandal Commission.
