The police team which went to catch the sand mafia in Bettiah was attacked. During this, a sub-inspector was injured. The incident took place in Naya Tola of Hauda Dumri village of Matiyaria police station area under Gaunaha block. In this attack, the sand mafia was freed from the clutches of the police by his other associates. There was chaos at the spot for hours. The injured sub-inspector was taken to a private nursing home for treatment, where after primary treatment, the injured sub-inspector was sent to GMCH Bettiah for better treatment. In this incident, six policemen including the station in-charge were injured. The station in-charge has deep wounds on his chest and back. All the injured are being treated at private and local level. The station in-charge’s condition is said to be critical. The doctors of Gaunaha Referral Hospital have referred him to Bettiah for better treatment. However, confirming the incident, Superintendent of Police Amarkesh D has confirmed that only one policeman was injured.
Police took action regarding the previous incident
Regarding the incident, the police say that on Thursday night the police team had gone to take action against the sand mafia in the area. In this, the henchmen of the sand mafia attacked the police team. Then the station in-charge Ankit Kumar Das identified the accused from the video footage of the incident and registered an FIR against Kalam Ansari, his brother Salam Ansari, Afroz Ansari including four main and more than two dozen unidentified people. After this, on Friday night, a team of about 50 policemen led by two DSPs again reached to take action, where the police arrested four accused. After that, the henchmen of the sand mafia became furious and attacked the police team. The accused along with their family members attacked with sticks and swords. In this sword attack, two fingers of Inspector Sanjeev Kumar were cut.
Four accused arrested
Regarding the incident, Superintendent of Police Amarkesh D said that after the incident, police from half a dozen police stations under the leadership of Narkatiaganj SDPO Jaiprakash Singh conducted raids and arrested four accused. Raids are underway to arrest other accused. He said that the arrested accused have been identified as Bahadur Ansari, Subhan Allah, Nurjaha Khatun and Zainab Khatun, residents of Naya Tola Pipra village of Gaunaha police station area. All the accused have been sent to jail after police interrogation.
Even late on Thursday night, the police team that had gone to seize a tractor trolley involved in illegal sand mining was attacked by sand mafia. In that incident, Shambhu Khatait and Shambhu Prasad Yadav were injured.
