Erosion of Kosi river has intensified in Baghod village of Naharwar Panchayat of Mahishi block area in Saharsa. The situation is such that people are forced to wake up. If erosion continues like this and another 15 feet of erosion occurs, people may have to suffer huge losses.

Local villagers Amit Singh, Shivshankar Singh, Siyaram Singh, Devsharan Singh, Vindeshwar Singh and Roshan Singh and others said that this village falls between the two embankments. Also it is between two streams. All our land and property has been eroded away by the river on both sides. Now the house gate is also on the verge of erosion. If immediate rescue work is not done at the administrative level, the entire village will be submerged in the river, leaving around 50 to 60 families homeless.

Villagers said that erosion had started as soon as the water level of the river decreased. But since few days, villagers had planted bamboo and trees at the erosion site and there was some reduction. But the river started eroding from within and then the erosion has increased rapidly. Local villagers Nitesh Kumar, Ramdev Singh, Rinku Devi, Ravi Kumar and Arjun Singh and others said that since June, we have been protesting against the erosion of the main stream of Kosi river by applying to the local administration, district administration, public representatives, water resources department and others. Have appealed to save the village. People said that living has become difficult. At the same time, the animals are not even able to get fodder.

What does CO say?

When asked about this, Mahishi Zone Circle Officer Anil Kumar said that information about erosion has been received. The executive engineer of Chandrayan Division has instructed the junior engineer to investigate. Has been asked to submit investigation report. Executive Engineer says that since there is no time for water and water is also less. That is why there is no such thing as erosion. It is not a dangerous situation. Erosion has occurred due to less water. The Sub-Divisional Officer has also talked to the Executive Engineer regarding the matter. The District Officer has also instructed the Executive Engineer. On receiving the report of JE, the report will be sent to the Executive Engineer Department. Further action will be taken as soon as instructions are received from there. Since these people also have a fixed time regarding floods. People will not be allowed to face any kind of problem.

What does the chief representative say?

In this regard, Nandan Kumar, representative of Naharwar Panchayat head Nutan Kumari, said that information about the matter has been given to the local administration as well as the district administration. But no action is being taken regarding rescue. A lot of erosion is happening. If this continues then people’s houses in the village will come under the influence of erosion any time.
