Bilkis Bano On Supreme Court Order: Bilkis Bano has expressed happiness over the Supreme Court’s order rejecting the immunity given to the culprits of gangrape and murder of seven family members. According to the order of the Supreme Court, 11 convicts of Bilkis Bano will soon be behind bars again. Expressing happiness on this occasion, Bilkis Bano said, “Today is really a new year for me.”
According to the report of news agency PTI, Bilkis Bano quoted her lawyer Shobha Gupta as saying, “I have cried tears of happiness. I have smiled for the first time in more than a year and a half. I have hugged my children. It feels as if a stone as big as a mountain has been removed from my chest and I can breathe again.
“Justice is like this,” he said. I thank the Honorable Supreme Court of India for giving me, my children and women everywhere this support and hope in the promise of equal justice for all.
Gujarat government misused power- SC
The Supreme Court on Monday (January 8) canceled the immunity given to 11 convicts of Bilkis Bano. The culprits had committed the crime during the Gujarat riots in 2002. The Supreme Court said that the Gujarat government misused its power. The apex court ordered that the 11 convicts be sent back to jail within two weeks.

Bano said she thought she had lost all courage until millions of people rallied for her. “6,000 people from everywhere and 8,500 people from Mumbai wrote petitions, 10,000 people wrote an open letter, as well as 40,000 people from 29 districts of Karnataka,” he said.
