Kyrgyzstan Violence: A crowd has become violent against international students in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Amidst the heavy violence in the area, many foreign students, including those from Pakistan, are reportedly still facing threats from the local people.
Both India and Pakistan have asked students to stay indoors and contact their embassies. Meanwhile, the Kyrgyz Republic said that the situation is completely under the control of security forces.

1. Several foreign students, including those from Pakistan, were reportedly attacked on May 13 in Bishkek city after a fight between some foreigners and locals. Kyrgyz police said they had mobilized forces on Friday, 17 May, to stop the violence.

3. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar posted on Twitter, monitoring the welfare of Indian students in Bishkek. It is being told that the situation is calm now. Students are strongly advised to keep in regular contact with the Embassy.
4. The Kyrgyzstan Foreign Ministry said that upon learning of the incident, law enforcement agencies of the Kyrgyz Republic took immediate steps to detain all persons involved in the incident, including foreign nationals and citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic.
5. The Kyrgyz Republic said the situation was completely under the control of security forces and that the safety of civilians and public order had been ensured. Destructive forces are deliberately spreading false and inaccurate information about the situation in the Kyrgyz Republic in foreign media and social networks, especially on the territory of Pakistan.
6. Kyrgyzstan said no one was seriously injured among those involved in the incident. About 15 citizens applied to medical institutions for testing. However, the students did not suffer any serious injuries.
7. Pakistan issued advisory for students saying that in view of the violence around student hostels in Bishkek, the Embassy has strongly advised all Pakistani students in Bishkek to stay indoors until the situation normalizes. Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic, Hassan Zaigum, said, “We are liaising with local law enforcement authorities to ensure the safety of our student community.”
8. Hassan Zaigum also said that the Kyrgyz government has confirmed that no Pakistani students have died in the recent violence against international students.
9. The statement said the Kyrgyz Health Ministry confirmed that four Pakistanis were given first aid and released, while one is still being treated for injuries, Reuters reported.
10. Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mumtaz Baloch said that a demarcation with Kyrgyzstan has been done on the instructions of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. He said the Pakistan government is in touch with the Kyrgyz government to ensure the safety of its citizens who are in danger in the wake of last night’s mob riots. He expressed regret over the incidents of violence and promised to investigate and punish the culprits.
