Tripura Gram Panchayat Election: The ruling party BJP in Tripura has once again sounded the victory bugle. In the three-phase panchayat elections held in the state, BJP has won 70 percent of the seats unopposed. Giving information, the election officer said that there are a total of 6,889 seats in the Gram Panchayat, which includes Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis and Zilla Parishads. Out of which BJP has captured 4,805 seats by winning them unopposed.
According to the report, BJP won 4,550 out of the total 6,370 seats in Tripura’s Gram Panchayats unopposed, meaning that voting will not take place on 71 percent of the seats. During this, State Election Commission Secretary Asit Kumar Das said that out of the 1,819 Gram Panchayat seats on which voting will take place, BJP has fielded candidates on 1,809 seats, while CPI(M) has fielded candidates on 1,222 seats and Congress on 731 seats.
Voting is to be held for 188 seats of Panchayat Samitis
State Election Commission secretary Asit Kumar Das said that Bharatiya Janata Party’s ally Tipra Motha has fielded candidates in 138 seats. He said that there will be no immediate election in one seat of Maheshkhala panchayat in West Tripura district, where the BJP candidate had died. Das said, “In the panchayat committees, BJP won 235 or 55 percent of the total 423 seats unopposed. However, voting is yet to be held for 188 seats.
BJP registered unopposed victory on 20 out of 116 Zila Parishad seats
Asit Kumar Das said that “BJP has fielded candidates on all 188 seats, whereas, CPI(M) has fielded candidates on 148 and Congress on 98 seats. Apart from this, Tipra Motha, BJP’s ally in the state, has fielded candidates on 11 seats. Das said that BJP won 20 out of 116 Zilla Parishad seats unopposed, which is about 17 percent.
In the last elections, BJP had won 96 percent seats unopposed
BJP has fielded its candidates on all 96 Zila Parishad seats where voting will take place, while CPI(M) has fielded 81 and Congress 76 candidates. The last date for withdrawal of nominations was July 22, while voting will take place on August 8. Also, counting of votes will take place on August 12. However, in the last elections, BJP had won 96 percent of the seats in the three-tier Panchayat system unopposed.
