BPSC Exam Row: The Supreme Court will hear on Tuesday the demand for cancellation of the prelims examination of Bihar Public Service Commission i.e. BPSC. The case has been posted for hearing before a bench of three judges headed by Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna. The petitioner has also demanded a CBI investigation into the alleged irregularities in the examination under the supervision of a retired Supreme Court judge.
In the petition filed by an organization named Anand Legal Aid Forum Trust, action has also been demanded against the SP and DM responsible for lathi charge on the protesting students. On this petition filed on January 4, the petitioner’s lawyer had requested for an early hearing. After which this matter is being heard in the bench of Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna, Justice Sanjay Kumar and KV Vishwanathan.
Students demanded re-examination for more than 4 lakh candidates.
BPSC had conducted the 70th Prelims Examination on December 13, 2024 for about 2000 posts of Bihar Civil Services. During the examination, candidates alleged paper leak and rigging at Bapu Examination Center in Patna. Due to this uproar, the Commission canceled the examination of Bapu Kendra. On January 4, the examination was conducted again at 22 places, but the students are adamant on the demand that the examination be conducted again for all the more than 4 lakh candidates.
On December 13, candidates created ruckus at the center
For the first time in Bihar, BPSC released the vacancy for 2027 posts in 27 departments for the combined competitive examination in October 2024, for which about 4.80 people had applied. The exam was on 13th December. There was a center for about 12,000 candidates in the Bapu examination complex in Patna, where about two and a half thousand candidates could not appear for the examination. A controversy broke out regarding this and the candidates created a ruckus outside the center regarding the paper being late and leaking. However, BPSC and Patna District Administration had termed the allegations of the candidates as baseless.
