Britain govt travel advisory: The UK government has updated travel advisory for the people of its country traveling to India on Tuesday (January 28). According to the new information, a strict warning has been given on the use of a license without satellite phones and GPS machines. In this advisory issued by the Office of Foreign, Commonwealth and Development (FCDO), it has been said that passengers may be fined or can be arrested for illegal use of such machines.
The update of FCDO states that it is illegal in India to keep and operate satellite phones and GPS machines without license. Whether you are traveling to another place through India, taking these machines without permission can put you in legal trouble. βThe new warning also said that other satellite related machines such as the ban. Cycling GPS can also be involved. Penalty, arrests and goods can also be confiscated for keeping them without permission.
Satellite phone ban in India
This consultation was also updated in India in December 2024 regarding the use of satellite phones and GPS machines in India. This travel advisory has been issued only to give guidance and its aim is to alert passengers from possible risks.
Advice on travel to border and sensitive areas
Advisory issued for India advises some other areas. It states that avoid traveling within 10 km of the Indo-Pakistan border, except Wagah border. Apart from this, UK citizens have also been advised not to travel to Kashmir and Manipur, as these areas are considered sensitive.
