Sawan Kumar, buxar: Brahmapur situated in Buxar district of Bihar is a famous place from the point of view of folk faith. Lakhs of devotees keep coming here to have darshan of Baba Brahmeshwar. Mythological beliefs are also associated with Baba Brahmeshwar Nath temple. Another specialty of Brahmapur is that here jaggery laddus are offered to Baba Brahmeshwar Nath. Devotees coming here offer laddus to Lord Shiva. This laddu is called Shankar laddu. Shankar Laddu of Brahmapur is famous all over the world. Laddus are being made here for about 70 years.

The specialty of Shankar Laddu is that there is boondi inside the laddu, which is very delicious in taste. Actually, only two-four shops making Shankar sweets are left here, where there is a huge crowd of people.

Jawahar has been making Shankar Laddu for 40 years
Shopkeeper Jawahar Prasad Chaurasia told that he has been making and selling laddus here for about 40 years. The demand for this laddu is far and wide. All the devotees who come here to have darshan of Baba definitely take Shankar laddu with them. From big leaders to even actors, the laddus here have been tasted. Shopkeeper Jawahar claims that many big leaders even today order Shankar Laddu through some means or the other. It also includes Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh.

There is Jawahar Sweets shop right in front of the temple. Where there is complete arrangement for breakfast also. The shopkeeper told that 50 kg Shankar Laddu is easily sold here every day. The price of this laddu is Rs 160 per kg.

Laddu is made by adding gram flour boondi.
Shopkeeper Jawahar Prasad Chaurasia told that there is a huge demand for this laddu in the month of Shravan. At that time, 100 kg laddus are easily sold every day. He told that the taste of Shankar Laddu is unique. Not only does the sweetness of jaggery remain when eaten, it also tastes like sugar. A big drop of gram flour is added inside it, which makes this laddu crunchy.

Jawahar told that whether it is summer or winter, jaggery laddu will give instant energy. In summer, eat a laddu and drink a glass of water, then you will not feel heatstroke and your body will not feel tired.
