Vat Savitri Vrat 2024 – Vat Savitri Vrat is observed as per belief on both the Amavasya and Purnima dates of Krishna Paksha of Jyeshtha month. The story is that in view of Savitri’s devotion to her husband, Yamraj had brought back her husband’s life under the banyan tree, therefore, during this fast, women worship this banyan tree for unbroken good fortune, long life and well-being of their husbands. Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh reside in the banyan tree.
Hariyali Teej 2024 – 7 August 2024 (Hariyali Teej 2023)
Hariyali Teej is celebrated on the third date of Shukla Paksha of Sawan month. This fast is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parvati. It is believed that Goddess Parvati had performed severe penance to get Lord Shankar and being pleased with the penance of the Goddess, Lord Shiva accepted Mother Parvati as his wife on the day of Hariyali Teej. This is the reason why women observe Hariyali Teej fast to get a suitable groom and happiness in married life.
Kajali Teej 2024 – 22 August 2024 (Kajari Teej 2024)
Celebrated on the third day of Krishna Paksha of Bhadra month, it is also known by the names Kajri Teej, Budhi Teej, Satuda Teej etc. It is especially celebrated in North and Central India. Neemdi Mata, Ganapati and Shankar-Parvati are worshiped on Kajali Teej with the wish to remove the problems of married life and marriage related problems. In this, the fast is broken only after seeing the moon.
Hartalika Teej 2024 – 6 September 2024 (Hartalika Teej 2024)
Hartalika Teej fast is observed on Shukla Paksha Tritiya of Bhadrapada month. In the South, this fast is also known as ‘Gauri Habba’. It is believed that on this day Mother Parvati and Shiva were reunited. In this, women observe a waterless fast for 24 hours and pray for unbroken good fortune. On the day of Hartalika Teej, there is a tradition of worshiping Shiva and Parvati by keeping vigil at night. It is said that Mother Parvati’s friends had kidnapped her and taken her to the forest so that her father would not marry her to Lord Vishnu against her wishes. Here he did penance in the forest to find Shiva.
Karwa Chauth 2024 – 20 October 2023 (Karwa Chauth 2024)
Married and unmarried girls observe fast on all the Teejs in a year, but the fast of Karva Chauth is observed only by married women. For the safety of their spouses and the long life of their husbands, women observe a waterless fast from morning till moonrise and then after offering Arghya to the moon, they break the fast by drinking water from their husband’s elephant.
