The Karnataka government has issued a warning after carcinogens were found in 12 out of 235 cake samples tested across the state. According to the news published in Hindustan Times, a senior government official has clearly said that we have detected harmful, cancer-causing elements in some of the cake samples tested. He said that these ingredients are strictly regulated under the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006 and related Food Safety Regulations of 2011.

Bakery cakes are dangerous for health

According to the report, cakes taken from bakeries in Bengaluru were tested. Their investigation confirmed the presence of dangerous substances. Following this, Food Safety Commissioner Srinivas K warned bakeries across the state against using unsafe chemicals and additives in their products. Bakery cakes are often made with margarine, which is cheap but harmful to health. If many types of colors and other ingredients are added to it, then it is no surprise that these cakes are harmful.

Cakes contain preservatives and dangerous chemicals

According to health experts, it is no surprise that bakery cakes are not good for health. A large amount of color is used in this. Preservatives and dangerous chemicals are used in bakery cakes which are very dangerous for the entire body. The surprising thing is that bakeries are selling them despite knowing its side effects.

However, many people prioritize price over quality. They prefer buying cheap bakery cakes rather than making cakes at home with more expensive and healthier ingredients. Kriti Jindal, owner of Delhi-based Swirls Cakery, finds the discovery of cancer-causing chemicals in cakes worrying. She suggests choosing safe options like beetroot juice for red color, blueberries for purple color, turmeric for yellow color and paprika instead of synthetic colors.

Due to these reasons the risk of cancer in bakery cakes increases

Many of the colors used in cakes, such as Allura Red, Sunset Yellow FCF, Ponso 4R (Strawberry Red), Tartrazine (Lemon Yellow) and Carmoisin (Maroon), are known to not only cause cancer when used above safe levels. Not only do they increase the risk, they can also harm mental and physical health.
