2000 Earthquake in a Day: The beginning of the month was very frightening for Canada. Nearly 2 thousand earthquakes were felt in the coastal area here in a single day. On this natural disaster, scientists say that due to the dissolution of magma in the sea, the sea can get divided into two parts. Not only this, scientists believe that there is a strong possibility of formation of a new layer of the ocean due to this natural disintegration. This moment is very interesting for marine scientists. The upcoming activity will give them information about how disintegration occurs in the seabed.
In which region of Canada did the earthquake occur?
The main epicenter of these earthquakes was a place called Endeavor Site, about 240 kilometers away from the coast of Vancouver Island. There are many cracks present on the sea floor. Streams of hot water emerge from these cracks.
Scientists believe that there is no danger from earthquakes originating from here. Because this area is different from the subduction zone. Subduction zone is the area where one tectonic plate is buried under another plate.
Pacific Plate and Juan de Fuca Plate are moving apart
Huge changes are going on inside the ocean. The Pacific Plate and Juan de Fuca Plate are moving apart near the Endeavor site. When the magma breaks through the thin crust and reaches the surface amidst the ongoing movement inside the sea, it comes in contact with water and cools down. In this way a new layer is being formed on the bottom of the sea.
The area became more active after 2018
Since 2018, Canada’s coastal region has become more active in terms of earthquakes. Last March 6, about 200 earthquakes were felt here every hour. According to researchers, about 1850 earthquakes occurred in a day. However, these earthquakes were not very harmful.
