India Canada Row: Diplomatic relations between India and Canada are continuously increasing. The tension is increasing. Amid this diplomatic controversy, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Commissioner Mike Duhem admitted that there is a strong possibility that Canadian criminals may be directing operatives in India. He shared this information on Tuesday (29 October 2024) in a parliamentary committee with Canadian police and government officials.
Canadian MP asked questions to police
India has rejected Canada’s allegations that the Indian government was involved in alleged attacks against Sikh activists. Canadian MP Glenn Motz asked Mike Duhem, “You said a few minutes ago that India is also suffering from violent extremism. It’s just that we (Canada) are feeling it in a different way. Now is it possible that potential criminals from Canada Is giving instructions to operatives in India.”
Police chief exposes Canada
In response, RCMP Commissioner Mike Duhem said, “I mean, anything is possible after October 14. We can’t deny that, but that’s the importance of working with our ally in India, so that we can work together.” and talk about the problems of the people involved.”
India has described Sikh separatists or Khalistanis as terrorists and a threat to its security. Last year, Hardeepi Singh Nijjar was shot dead by some gunmen in Canada. Canadian PM Justin Trudeau had accused India of being behind this murder, after which the distance between the two countries increased.
India rejected Canada’s allegations and demanded evidence. Indian High Commissioner Sanjay Verma was declared a person of interest by Canada on October 13 in the investigation of Nijjar’s murder. Before Canada could take any further action, on October 14, India recalled Sanjay Verma and five other diplomats.
