This cancer is spread by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). HPV gets into the body through sexual intercourse. That means it is a sexually transmitted disease (STD), which turns into cancer. Its symptoms start appearing as soon as one is affected by this cancer.

Symptoms of Cervical Cancer

1. Severe pain and bleeding during intercourse

2. Excessive bleeding from vagina, excessive white discharge, strong odor

3. Pelvic pain i.e. pain in the lower abdomen.

4. Vaginal discharge: Abnormal vaginal discharge.

6. Feeling very tired without any reason.

7. Prolonged periods

Why is cervical cancer dangerous?

A report was presented on the cases of cervical cancer reported worldwide in 2018. According to this, one-third of the cervical cancer cases found in 2018 were in India and China only. The highest number of cases of this cancer occurred in China, while the highest number of deaths occurred in India. In 2018, 97,000 cervical cancer patients were found in India, out of which 60 thousand died. Whereas in China, out of 1,06,000 cases, 48 ​​thousand deaths were reported.

The report of the Indian Council for Medical Research states that less than 30% of women in the age group of 30-49 in the country come forward to get tested for cervical cancer. Most women avoid testing, due to which cancer spreads rapidly and becomes fatal.

How to avoid cervical cancer

1. Do not have sex with multiple people without a condom.

2. Don’t forget to get a Pap smear test done once every three years.

3. Stay away from smoking and cigarettes.

4. Eat more fruits and vegetables in your diet.

5. Keep obesity under control.

6. Girls aged 9-14 years must get HPV vaccine.
