Standard chemotherapy was done to women of one group, women of the second group were given carboplatin along with other medicines once a week for 8 consecutive weeks. Dr. Rajendra Badwe, director of the Tata Memorial Centre, said that on an average, 1.1 million women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, out of which 30,000 cases are of triple-negative breast cancer, which is considered very aggressive. Till now this figure shows that 40% of women lose their lives due to this disease, but now due to the introduction of this medicine, there has been a significant reduction in the death rate and women also recover completely in less time than before. Dr. Badwe said that if the study is implemented worldwide, thousands of lives can be saved annually.
