Kolkata Rape Murder Case: The CBI has taken a big step in the case of rape-murder of a junior doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The central investigating agency has arrested former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh, on Saturday (September 14). He is in judicial custody till September 23.
Earlier, the CBI had arrested the former principal in a case of financial irregularities. Now a fresh arrest has been made in the rape-murder case. The CBI has arrested Sandeep Ghosh and SHO of Tala Police Station Abhijit Mandal for alleged delay in filing an FIR and destroying evidence in the investigation of the RG Kar rape case. Sandeep will be produced in Sealdah court on Sunday.

According to sources, the CBI investigation has revealed that both Sandip Ghosh and the SHO of Kolkata Police were allegedly involved in obstructing justice by delaying the investigation and tampering with evidence. Earlier this month, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court sent Sandip Ghosh and three others to judicial custody till September 23 in a case of financial irregularities.
Sandip Ghosh was kept in solitary confinement
Ghosh is currently lodged in a solitary cell in the Presidency Central Jail, where he was brought earlier this week. Sandip Ghosh was arrested by the CBI on September 2. The Calcutta High Court had ordered a CBI probe into the case after a junior doctor was raped and murdered on the campus.
On August 9, the body of a 31-year-old junior doctor was found in the seminar hall of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The post-mortem report revealed that she had been brutally raped before being killed. Doctors across the country went on strike and protested over the case.
