‘Her World India’, a leading organization in promoting women empowerment, organized Women’s Power in Delhi in collaboration with Policy Center and Gender Lab (PCGL), Miranda House and Policy Tank. ‘World India’ has been at the forefront in promoting women’s issues. ‘World India Women’ is creating a platform that empowers, educates and celebrates the achievements of women working in all walks of life.
Rakhi Bakshi, Founder and Editor-in-Chief, Her World India, in her welcome address emphasized the importance of using their skills to shape their careers and lives while promoting solidarity among women. The highlight of the event was the distinguished guest, Professor Bijayalakshmi Nanda, Principal of Miranda House, who unveiled her latest literary work, “Thirty One Pandemic Letters of Love and Loss”. In his address Professor Nanda stressed the importance of women sustaining each other and creating a chain of empowerment. She said this touching discovery of holding each other through adversity is a symbol of the strength and resilience inherent in women supporting women.
Eminent speakers from various fields contributed to the in-depth discussions during the programme. Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax Surbhi Garg (IFS) highlighted social concerns like female feticide and said this is not the time for women to utilize their capabilities or power to increase opportunities for themselves. Dr. Ekta Kapoor, Head of FFT Division and NGCMA, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, shared her perspectives on the transformative role of women in shaping the future.
Additional Commissioner of Income Tax Maninder Kaur emphasized the need for gender equality and economic empowerment, following which Brijesh Hirat, Strategist and Policy Advisor, The Policy Tank, drew attention to the transformative role of women in society in correcting the social epidemic of prevalent discrimination. . Meanwhile, Advocate General of Meghalaya State Amit Kumar talked about the emerging mindset in Meghalaya and subsequently the country and the change in structure from discrimination to empowerment.
Pranav Sharma, founder of The Policy Tank, underlined the impact of the women’s driving policy and made a personal connection with his mother’s journey. Also at the event, V. Mohana, a senior advocate of the Supreme Court, shared his inspiring journey, and revealed how a promise he made to his mother took him to the pinnacle of his career in law. Dr. Abha Rani Singh (IRS), CMD, NMDFC, Government of India, made the occasion more interesting with her words emphasizing the importance of women’s contribution in various fields.
The objective of the program was to highlight and celebrate stories of the inherent strength of women. The launch of Professor Bijayalakshmi Nanda’s book serves as a focal point, symbolizing the strength, resilience and unity of women in the face of challenges. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by lawyer and author Jayashree Viswanathan and teacher Usha, who discussed finding new ways and using the root of law and justice to empower women. The program was attended by many young students, eminent citizens, faculty and staff of Miranda House, University of Delhi, which promoted a supportive environment for the development of women or power.
