CERT-In Issued Warning : The Microsoft global outage that happened a few days ago shook the whole world. The outage had the biggest impact on airlines, banks, hospitals and other important services. The reason behind this global outage was an update introduced for Microsoft Windows machines by cyber security company CrowdStrike. According to the information, 8.5 million machines running on Windows operating system across the world were affected due to this outage.
But now hackers are taking advantage of this global outage and carrying out cyber attacks. In this regard, cyber security agencies around the world, including the US, UK, Australia and Canada, have issued warnings about hackers using the CrowdStrike bug to attack businesses. In India too, cyber security agency CERT-In has warned companies about hacker attacks related to the CrowdStrike outage.
This is how hackers are making users their victims
According to CERT-In, there have been reports of phishing campaigns being run to target CrowdStrike users. In this, the data is being stolen by taking advantage of the problems of the users. This includes sending phishing emails to users in the form of CrowdStrike support, pretending to be CrowdStrike staff in phone calls and selling software scripts, giving Trojan malware pretending to be a recovery tool. Due to this, sensitive data can be leaked, the system can crash.
Apart from this, CERT-IN has also issued a list of 25 dangerous URLs to companies, which they have been advised to block on their networks.
