The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.
In Chanasma assembly seat of Patan district, Dineshbhai Thakor of INC defeated Dilipkumar Thakor of BJP by just 1,404 votes. BJP candidate got 85,002 votes while Congress got 86,406 votes here. However, NOTA played a decisive role in this victory of the Congress, which got 3,293 votes, more than the margin of victory.

AAP came third in this election, its candidate Vishnubhai Patel got 7586 votes, which was just 4.08 percent of the total votes. There were five candidates, including AAP’s Vishnubhai Patel, whose deposits were also forfeited. NOTA got 3,293 votes here.
BJP got victory in 2017
The BJP had won the Chanasma assembly seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election, BJP had made Dilip Kumar Thakor its candidate from this seat. He defeated Raghubhai Desai of Congress by just eight thousand votes. A total of 14 candidates were in the fray here. Apart from these two, the deposits of the remaining 12 candidates were forfeited.

Chanasma is one of the seats the BJP has been winning since the Jana Sangh era. In 1972, the Jana Sangh had won here. At the same time, in the 1975 elections, the Kisan Mazdoor Lokpaksha was successful. In the elections held after the formation of the BJP in 1980, the BJP got nine seats in Gujarat. Chanasma seat of Patan district was also included in these nine seats. The BJP has dominated this seat in the total 14 elections held so far. The Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidates here have won this seat a total of six times. At the same time, Congress had won here only thrice before 2022. This is his fourth win on this seat.
