Charas Recovered From Gujarat: Gujarat Police on Thursday (August 15) recovered 50 packets containing 60 kg of charas (hashish) worth Rs 30 crore from a beach near Onjal village in Navsari district, an official said. This is the fourth incident in a week when a large quantity of drugs was found abandoned along the coastline in the South Gujarat region.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Sushil Agarwal said that after the seizure of hashish packets from the coastal areas of Surat and Valsad districts earlier this week, the local police had formed several teams to search the Navsari coast.
The SP said, ‘During the search operation, we recovered 50 packets of hashish which were lying unattended at five different places on the beach near Onjal village. Each packet contained 1,200 grams of hashish and the price of 1,000 grams of hashish in the international market is Rs 50 lakh. In total, we have seized 60 kg of hashish worth Rs 30 crore.’
According to the police officer, the search operation is still going on along the coast of the district. Earlier on August 12, ten unclaimed packets of hashish were recovered on the coast near Udvada village in Valsad district. A day later, the police recovered three packets of hashish worth Rs 1.5 crore lying on the beach near Hazira village on the outskirts of Surat city. On the same day, the police recovered 21 packets of hashish worth Rs 10 crore from Danti beach in Valsad district.
Surat Police’s Special Investigation Team (SOG) recovered Afghani hashish worth Rs 1.87 crore on Thursday. This action was taken by Surat SOG on the information of fishermen. The team took action and recovered three packets of Afghani hashish, weighing 3 kg 754 grams. The cost of the recovered hashish is estimated to be Rs 1 crore 87 lakh 70 thousand.
